We officially broke ground on our new community center!
On Sunday November 9th, we were joined by a group of employees from CertaPro painters in Indianapolis, a supporting company that played a large part in the purchase of the land, and together with them, our partnering pastors and organizations in Cancun, Back2Back board member, Tom Woelk and his wife Karen and John Guckenberger, our US Operations Director, we held a ceremony attended by around 200 people from the community along with government officials and press members.
It was a very exciting day. After the ceremony, we had stations set up and run by our amazing volunteers, doing face painting, balloon animals, and even sharing the message of salvation through a craft of making a bracelet.
We also fed everyone who attended and spread the word about all that we are dreaming about this land and the future possibilities it holds for the community of Tres Reyes.
In case you are wondering why an orphan care ministry is building a community center, let me give you the bullet highlights.
Cancun is the capital of the following things for the entire country of Mexico:
- Suicide
- Teen Pregnancy
- Alcohol Addiction
- Drug Addiction
- Divorce Rate (70%)
- Human Trafficking
- Sex Tourism (Children Focused)
All of these statistics are just numerical proof that this city is a stronghold for the enemy, and Satan always begins his assault on the Kingdom by attacking the family unit.
Because of these statistics and many other factors, Cancun has few orphanages and the children that are at risk are often swept up into these terrible circumstances. The community of Tres Reyes is a community that is at very high risk of all of these things and the best thing we can do to prevent kids from this community from being exploited is to build into the entire community and the families that live there.
With the ground breaking, we have begun the final stages of design and planning and finalizing the blue prints and engineering.
All that remains is God providing the finances to begin construction!
Please join us in prayer that this would happen quickly and that people’s hearts would be stirred to make this dream a reality for God’s Kingdom to grow in the community of Tres Reyes. |
